University of Kent

The University of Kent, formerly known as “The University of Kent at Canterbury (UKC)”, is both a public research centre and an academic institution located in Kent, United Kingdom. It was established in the mid-1960s and is recognized by many as a Beloff’s plate glass university.

The University has a second campus located north of Canterbury, which is within 1.2 kilometres of parkland and can accommodate more than 6,000 students. The same goes for most of the other campuses associated with the University including Medway and Tonbridge in Kent and European postgraduate centres in Brussels, Athens, Rome and Paris.

The University is open to international students from around the world. It annually receives over 28,000 (2016) applications from students in 158 different nations and has approximately 41% of its research and academic staff being nationals of countries outside the United Kingdom.

Last year (2019), the University of Kent occupied a spot on the list of the top 55 universities in the UK which was compiled by the Guardian, The Complete University, and The Times. It also scored 85% for providing overall student satisfaction in the 2018 National Student Survey.

Scholarships

1. School of English Scholarships:

The School of English in the University of Kent aims to offer several one-off scholarships up to £5,000 to taught MA applicants, in the form of either cash or a fee waiver.

Eligible Courses:

Any Masters courses related to the study of English Language

Who Should  Apply:

Candidates from any nationality, age, or fee status that have enrolled for a taught MA programme will be automatically considered for the scholarship.

How To Apply:

Application is automatic. As long as the student has applied for a place on a taught MA program, he/she will be considered for the scholarship.

Already considered students would be notified via email, and successful candidates will be informed through email to attend an interview with the school.

2. International Scholarships for Taught Masters Students:

The University of Kent has a relatively long history of welcoming international students and also providing financial support through a scholarship programme to enable them enrolling into a taught Masters programme.

The scholarship programme aims to offer a grant up to £8,000 to cover the student’s tuition fees and other related expenses.

Eligible courses:

Any course in a taught Masters programme at the University

Who Should Apply:

• International students who have applied or are currently undergoing a Taught Masters programme are eligible for the scholarship.
• The applicant must be an overseas student.
• The applicant must have already received an unquestionable offer to study a taught Masters programme at the University.

How To Apply:

Students who wish to apply for the scholarship must do so via the scholarship application portal.

Once an unconditional offer to study at the University has been received, the student should visit the application portal to process the application.

Keep in mind that the application will require the student to compose an essay not more than 750 words, and should be about a topic related to the student’s passion and the desired degree programme.

3. China Scholarship Council (CSC)-Kent PhD Scholarship:

The sponsorship council of China and the University of Kent joined together to provide a fully-funded PhD Scholarship (per annum) to 20 Chinese students studying at the University of Kent.

The scholarship will cover tuition fees, living stipends (£1,200 monthly), airfare to the UK from China, visa costs, and medical insurance.

Eligible courses:

Any course, as long as it is enrolled in a PhD programme.

Who Should Apply:

Applicants must be students from China. However, students from Macau, Hong Kong, and Taiwan are ineligible.

Chinese students working overseas are ineligible for the scholarship as well.

Applicants must have already applied to study a full-time PhD programme at the University of Kent.

How To Apply:

Applications should be submitted to the University’s scholarship website. Also, keep in mind that an applicant ID will be required to submit the form.

If the application were successful, the University of Kent would send an acknowledgement email followed by further instructions on how to apply to the China Scholarship Council.

The CSC will equally inform the applicant when their application has been approved.
