Below is a list of over 30 engineering scholarships for African/International students that are either ongoing or are offered annually. Some of these scholarships have past deadlines. 1. SCIENCE BY WOMEN Visiting Research Senior Fellowships for African Women (Fully-funded to Spain)

The Science by Women program will fund a total of 10 six-month visiting senior research fellowships for ten experienced African women researchers in any of the following international research centers in Spain below.

2. Goldman Sachs Grace Hopper Fully-funded Scholarship + Job/Internship for Young Women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Fields 

The Goldman Sachs Grace Hopper Scholarship will be awarded to 25 female engineers who demonstrate excellent academic performance, strong leadership, and a passion for learning and solving problems.

3. Study in Japan: Matsumae International Foundation (MIF) Research Fellowship for Natural Science, Engineering and Medicine 

Upon the concept of the founder of the Matsumae International Foundation (MIF), “Towards a Greater Understanding of Japan and a Lasting World Peace,” MIF started the Research Fellowship Program in 1980.

4. £9,000 Engineering and Computing Scholarship Scheme at Coventry University UK

The Coventry University UK International Dean’s Excellence in Academia Scholarship (IDEAS) is a fantastic opportunity for 5 students applying to the Faculty of Engineering, Environment & Computing to be awarded £9,000 in part tuition payment.

5. University of Manchester Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences Undergraduate Scholarships

The Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences at the University of Manchester is offering up to ten scholarships of £2,000 per annum for well-qualified international undergraduate students. These scholarships will be renewed for each year of full time study at the University of Manchester.

6. Gus Archie Undergraduate Scholarship Program for Petroleum Engineering Students

Each year the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Foundation, through the SPE Section Scholarship Support Program, as well as with individual candidates, awards the Gus Archie Memorial Scholarship to the most outstanding student preparing to attend university to pursue an undergraduate degree in petroleum engineering.

7. University of Edinburgh School of Engineering International Masters Scholarship

The scholarships will be awarded to international (non-EU) students who have been accepted for admission on a full-time basis for an eligible postgraduate taught Masters program within the School of Engineering.

8. UK Newcastle University International Foundation Scholarships

Newcastle University opens the International Foundation Scholarships for talented students to study for post-secondary education leading to admission to undergraduate degrees at the university. This is also offered for the International Foundation in Physical Sciences and Engineering.

9. University of Nottingham Fully-funded Engineering Scholarship for International Students

A University of Nottingham Engineering Research PhD scholarship is awarded to recognize and reward applications from outstanding international students registering on Engineering research degree programs.

10. EDSF Scholarship for International students in Computer Science & Engineering and Graphic & Media Communications

The Electronic Document Scholarship Foundation (EDSF) scholarship program was initiated in 1999 to recognize and support the next generation of professionals in the document management and graphic communication industry. EDSF scholarships of $1000 to $5,000 USD one-time payment are awarded to full-time undergraduates in accredited colleges or universities anywhere in the world who are committed to pursuing a career in the document management and graphic communications marketplace.

11. Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation in Sub-Saharan Africa, 2016-2017

The Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation aims to stimulate and reward engineering entrepreneurship in sub-Saharan Africa. The Africa Prize will encourage ambitious and talented sub-Saharan African engineers from all disciplines to apply their skills to develop scalable solutions to local challenges, highlighting the importance of engineering as an enabler of improved quality of life and economic development. Finalists will be invited to present at an event held in Africa, and a winner will be selected to receive £25,000 along with runners-up, who will each be awarded £10,000.

12. SPIE Scholarship in Optical Science and Engineering

SPIE offers Optics and Photonics Education Scholarships and Travel Scholarships for students located anywhere in the world, from high school (pre-university/secondary) through graduate school and PhD programs, who are studying or planning to study optics, photonics, or related fields. The Optics and Photonics Education Scholarships are for high school, pre-university, secondary school, undergraduate, and graduate students. The scholarship awards are in varying amounts, ranging from $2,000 to $11,000.

13. University of Sheffield UK Undergraduate Scholarships for Nigerian Students

The University of Sheffield offers a range of undergraduate (BA, BSc, BEng, MEng) scholarships to students from Nigeria who show exceptional academic potential and are starting their studies at the University of Sheffield in September.

14. Agbami Scholarship for Undergraduate Nigeria Students

The Agbami Medical and Engineering Professional Scholarship Award is open to Nigerian university students. Accepted subject areas include medicine/surgery, dentistry, pharmacy, and engineering.

15. University of Strathclyde Faculty of Engineering Excellence Scholarship (FEES) for International students

The University of Strathclyde Faculty of Engineering Excellence Scholarship (FEES) is offering a number of scholarships for self-funded, international (non-EU) fee-paying students with excellent academic qualifications.

16. Audio Engineering Society (AES) Graduate Scholarships for Talented Students

Since its establishment in 1984, the Foundation has awarded grants for graduate studies to hundreds of exceptional applicants, many of whom have gone on to prominent and successful careers in the profession. Applications are accepted from students worldwide.

17. US Government TechWomen Programme for Women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Fields

The TechWomen initiative will identify 100 women in STEM fields from countries in Africa, Central and South Asia, and the Middle East to participate in the program.

18. Agip Scholarships for Undergraduate Nigerian Students

The Nigerian Agip Oil Company Limited is offering the Agip Tertiary Institutions Scholarship Awards Scheme for Undergraduate Nigerian 100-Level Students. Only candidates studying engineering, geology and geosciences are eligible for the National Merit Award.

19. Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarships for Women

Google offers the Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship every year for women in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa to study in the field of computing and technology for bachelors, masters or PhD degrees.

20. $50,000 OPEC/OFID Scholarships for Developing Countries

The OPEC Fund for International Development – OFID Scholarship Award is open to qualified applicants who have obtained or are on the verge of completing their undergraduate degree and who wish to study for a Master’s degree to win up to $50,000.00.

21. Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) Wighton Fellowship in Engineering for Developing Countries

The Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) is offering the  Wighton Fellowship in Engineering for professional or academic staff working in the engineering department of an ACU member university in a low- or middle-income country.

22. Japanese Government Scholarships for Undergraduate & Masters International Students

The Japanese Government’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) offers scholarships for academic study in Japan to foreign students interested in deepening their understanding of the Japanese language, Japanese affairs, and Japanese culture. Among other courses, engineering courses occupy a large amount of the awards given by the Japanese government. Please contact the Japanese embassy or consulate general in your country.

23. SEFS – George Boole / Presidential Merit Scholarships for International Students

The College of Science, Engineering, and Food Science (SEFS), in partnership with George Boole and Presidential Merit Scholarships, awards annual scholarships to eligible foreign students to cover the difference between the EU and international tuition fees for undergraduate or master’s degree programs. These scholarships are available to international students, and selection will be on the basis of the candidate’s academic performance in his/her secondary school leaving examinations and/or first degree.

24. University of Bath Postgraduate Engineering Scholarships for International Students

The University of Bath is offering 20 Faculty of Engineering and Design Elite MSc Scholarships, each worth £2,000, to international fee-paying students. This money is not given to students as cash but applied as a discount to their tuition fees.

25. University of Warwick Engineering Scholarships for International Students

The scholarships are open to students who have confirmed the School of Engineering University of Warwick as their firm/first choice and will commence studies in 2017. If you do not yet hold an offer, you can apply via UCAS.

26. IDB Scholarships for Muslim Communities in Non-Member Countries

Islamic Development Bank offers the IDB Scholarship Programme for Muslim Communities in Non-Member Countries (SPMC) for undergraduate studies. Eligible Field of Study: Medicine, Engineering, Agriculture, and other fields related to the above disciplines.

27. Henry DeWitt Smith Scholarship – Master’s & PhD in Petroleum Engineering

The Henry DeWitt Smith Scholarship is offered annually to students studying or planning to study petroleum engineering on the Master’s or PhD level. Henry DeWitt Smith’s example of inspired leadership, professional success, personal integrity, and boundless dedication was his heritage to the mining industry, which he served all of his adult life. In his memory, the Henry DeWitt Smith Fellowship was created by his wife Ellen Burke Smith. Candidates must be members of the Society of Petroleum Engineers.

28. University Twente Scholarship in Netherlands for International Students

The University Twente Scholarship (UTS) is a scholarship for excellent students from both EU/EEA as well as non-EU/EEA countries, applying for a graduate program (MSc) at the University of Twente. Field of study includes engineering, science, and technology courses.

29. Newcastle University Scholarships for Nigerian Students – UK

Newcastle University offers 3 Newcastle University Nigeria Scholarship (NU Nigeria Scholarship) awards.  These are available for high achieving Nigerian students applying for entry onto postgraduate Master’s degree programs, commencing in September each year.  Each scholarship will have a value of £5,000, payable towards the first year of tuition fees.

30. NDDC Foreign Postgraduate Scholarship to Study Abroad – Master & PhD

The Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, is offering the Post-Graduate Foreign Scholarship Programme to equip Niger Deltans with relevant training and skills for effective participation in the Local Content program of the Federal Government, as well as compete globally in various professional fields.

31. BG Scholarships for Tanzanian Students to Study in UK Universities

The BG Tanzania International Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme for Geoscience and Engineering is aimed at Tanzanian graduates who want to complete their postgraduate education in the UK and access future employment opportunities in the energy and related sectors.

32. Melbourne International Research Scholarships for Masters and PhD- Australia

The Melbourne Research Scholarship (MRS) was established by the University of Melbourne and is awarded to high-achieving domestic and international research students. The university awards over 300 scholarships per year, including the Melbourne School of Engineering. Since 2016, the Melbourne International Research Scholarship (MIRS) has been part of the Melbourne Research Scholarship program.

33. NNPC/ ESSO International Postgraduate Scholarship for Nigerian Students

Mobil Producing Nigeria offers international postgraduate Scholarships for Nigerian students to study for master’s in geosciences and engineering (petroleum, mechanical, chemical, electrical, electronics, civil/structural, pipeline, marine, and subsea).

34. Microsoft research PhD Fellowship in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Mathematics

Microsoft Research offers an annual PhD Fellowship Program for PhD students in their second or third year of PhD studies. Candidates undertaking courses in computer science, electrical Engineering, or mathematics may be nominated by their universities where they are active, full-time students in a PhD program over two consecutive academic years.

35. Microsoft Research Graduate Women’s Scholarships, USA

The Microsoft Research Graduate Women’s  Scholarship for international PhD students in the field of computer science, electrical engineering, or mathematics, USA.

36. Singapore International Graduate Award (SINGA) Scholarship in Science, Engineering and Research

The Singapore International Graduate Award (SINGA) Scholarship is offered annually to international candidates seeking admission to pursue a full-time PhD program at Nanyang Technological University (NTU). The Singapore International Graduate Award (SINGA) is a collaboration between the Agency for Science, Technology & Research (A*STAR), the National University of Singapore (NUS), and the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) to offer PhD training to be carried out in English at your chosen lab at A*STAR Research Institutes, NUS, or NTU.

37. Doctoral Scholarship Program for Engineering Foreign Students at KUT, Japan

The Kochi University of Technology (KUT) Special Scholarship Program (SSP) on research projects in the field of engineering for international doctoral applicants, Japan. Program of Study: Doctoral Program (3 years), Department of Engineering, Graduate School of Engineering.

38. $37,000 yearly Facebook Fellowship Award for International Graduate Students

The Facebook Fellowship Program is open to full-time PhD students (domestic and international) enrolled during the current academic year and studying computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, system architecture, or a related area.

39. Commonwealth Professional Fellowships for Developing Countries, UK

The Commonwealth Scholarship Commission is offering research fellowships for mid-career professionals from developing Commonwealth countries to study at a UK host organization. Priority will be given to applications with practical relevance in the following broadly defined areas: Agriculture/fisheries/forestry, economic growth, education, Engineering/science/technology, environment, governance and public health

40. NRF-TWAS Doctoral Scholarships / NRF-TWAS African Renaissance Doctoral Scholarships

The partnership between The NRF and The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) has led to the establishment of two doctoral scholarships, namely, the NRF-TWAS Doctoral Scholarship and the NRF-TWAS African Renaissance Doctoral Scholarship. This award is strategically aimed at increasing and supporting doctoral scholars from Africa and developing countries who will be funded per annum for a maximum of three (3) years to pursue full-time research training in South Africa. There will be an intake of 70 doctoral scholars each year for three (3) years.

41. Google Research Awards in Sciences and Engineering for Academic Institutions Worldwide

Google offers $150,000 in Faculty Research Awards to academic institutions worldwide pursuing innovative research in these areas. The Google Research Awards are one-year awards structured as unrestricted gifts to universities to support the work of world-class full-time faculty members at top universities around the world. Faculty members can apply for Research Awards by submitting a proposal to one of two biannual funding rounds.

42. Zayed Future Energy Prize of US$4 million for Entrepreneurs

The prize fund comes from the Abu Dhabi government as a way to honor and continue the legacy of the late founding father of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s renewable energy company, manages the Zayed Future Energy Prize. A dedicated team works on the prize all year round.
