The Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries in partnership with the Jilin Agricultural University, is offering a fully-funded postgraduate scholarship to the People’s Republic of China.

About the Award: This scholarship aims  to address areas identified as scarce and critical in the agriculture, forestry and fisheries sectors. For the 2018/19 academic year the department is offering fully funded postgraduate scholarships with universities in the People’s Republic of China. The successful candidates will be enrolled at the People’s Republic of China at Jilin Agricultural University in Changchun.

The scholarship is open only for South African citizens who wish to further their studies and pursue careers in the identified scarce skills offered by the university mentioned.

Eligibility: 

  • South African citizenship/permanent residence
  • Academic excellence
  • Applicants should meet the entry requirements and be acceptable to the university at which they propose to pursue their studies in the People’s Republic of China
  • Qualifying applicants should be in the agriculture, forestry and fisheries sectors
  • The individuals should meet the requirements of the specified scarce skills and of entry as specified by the selected university in the People’s Republic of China
  • Preference will be given to applicants with requisite credentials from previously disadvantaged communities

Value of Scholarship: Those who are admitted will get the full scholarship provided by the Chinese Government and issued through China Scholarship Council (CSC). Included in the scholarship (subject to the adjustment of the Government) will be:

  • Tuition
  • Monthly stipend
  • Sickness and accident insurance
  • Prescribed books
  • Accommodation (university residence)

  • Applicants must complete relevant application forms available from the website of the department at www.daff.gov.za
  • Certified copies of qualifications (Undergraduate/Honours/Masters)
  • Certified copies of transcripts (most recent)
  • A study plan or research proposal in English (not less than 800 words; Font: Arial 12)
  • Two letters of recommendation from supervisor and Head of the Directorate.
  • A detailed curriculum vitae(cv)
  • Completed foreigner physical examination form obtainable from DAFF
  • Certified copy of South African ID and valid passport
  • Foreign physical Examination Form (http://www.campuschina.org)
  • English proficiency certificate
