About the Award: The David and Elaine Potter Foundation has established a Fellowship Programme to support outstanding South African students who intend to contribute to civil society in South Africa, by leveraging their educational advantage in any discipline. A strong civil society holds national and local government accountable, enhances democratic institutions and the quality of life of its citizens and helps strengthen and sustain economic, civil and legal rights. Any field of study will be considered. Duration of Scholarship: The tenure of the award is 1 or 2 years for a Master’s (depending on the academic programme to be undertaken) and 3 years for a Doctoral degree, with renewals after the first year contingent on the degree programme and on satisfactory progress. Successful candidates are expected to complete their degrees within the above time frames, as no Potter Fellowship funding extensions to the time-frame above will be given.
