Journalists from Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa and developing Asia are invited to apply for this program. The Climate Change Media Partnership (CCMP), led by Internews’ Earth Journalism Network, is accepting candidates for a fellowship to cover the UN climate negotiations Dec. 7 to 13 in Santiago, Chile.
Application Deadline: 13th October 2019
Eligible Countries: All
To Be Taken At (Country): Santiago, Chile
About the Award: Since its launch in 2007, the CCMP has brought more than 300 journalists from developing countries worldwide to attend and report on the Conference of Parties (COP) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, now in its 25th year. This has enabled them to cover the summit for their home audiences, work with experienced and knowledgeable journalists from around the world and gain a multifaceted understanding of climate change’s global impact.
This year’s selected Fellows will attend the second week of the UN climate negotiations in Santiago, Chile, from 7-13 December 2019 (with arrival on the 6th and departure on the 14th).
At COP25, Fellows will participate in a series of specially designed activities, including an orientation session with climate experts on the key issues at this COP, daily breakfast briefings and interviews with high-level officials. They will also be guided by EJN trainers, who are senior journalists with experience in covering UN climate summits.
Applicants will be asked to submit samples of their work, which can be uploaded as text or web links. Stories can be sent in a native language as long as they are accompanied by a short English synopsis. However, a good command of English is a prerequisite for participation in Fellowship activities.
We fully respect the editorial independence of all Fellows, and throughout the conference Fellows are free to report as they see fit. We do ask, however, that in addition to the requirements above Fellows agree to allow EJN to cross-post all the stories they file on COP25 on the Earth Journalism Network’s website and its local and regional partner sites (the Fellow’s home media outlet can first publish the story).
This year’s CCMP Fellowship will be made possible by funding provided by the Climate Justice Resilience Fund, the European Climate Foundation and the Global Environment Facility.
