AMLA Fellowship for Artist Managers and Literary Activists in Africa 2018 – Uganda

Have you recently set up or are you thinking of setting up a new platform that promotes African literature? Are you employed in a recently established literary and cultural initiative? Would you like to join a network of like-minded literary activists and arts managers?  This four-month fellowship is designed to support you to build your idea from the form in which it is right now, to an implementable stage.

About the Award: The fellowship is divided into two major parts namely:

Get Up to $100,000 Student Loan for Your Master in US or Canada - Apply before 31 December 2024 to get as low as 9.99% interest rate

• a three day in-person workshop in Kampala, Uganda (August 15 – 17, 2018) and
• Three months online mentoring with established arts managers and literary activists.

At the successful completion of the fellowship, fellows receive a certificate of completion and join the AMLA network, a community of founders and members of Africa-centered literary and cultural initiatives.

Managed jointly by Africa in Dialogue and the Centre for African Cultural Excellence (CACE), with the support of the University of Bristol and the University of Exeter, the annual AMLA workshop has attracted over 50 arts managers and literary activists in two years from over 15 African countries. The third edition will focus on each fellow’s idea, following globally tested toolkits for managing a project, using social media to maximise impact, and fundraising to sustain it.

Successful applicants shall be obliged to attend both the workshop and the online mentoring. The three months’ mentoring offers fellows space to further reflect on, consult and polish their ideas and project plans with the guidance of an assigned mentor.

Value of Award: There is no fee for attending but successful applicants will be responsible for funding their own travel. The AMLA network will however provide meals and accommodation during the workshop in Kampala.
