About the Award: We are currently accepting applications for yearlong fellowship opportunities with a variety of organizations working across the African continent. PiAf Fellows work in many positions in various sectors and roles, including income generation and social entrepreneurship, humanitarian aid, education, post-conflict reconstruction, public health, agriculture, and environment and conservation. Since its launch in 1999, PiAf has placed nearly 500 Fellows in 35 countries across the continent.

We develop young leaders committed to Africa’s advancement by offering yearlong fellowship opportunities with a variety of organizations that work across the African continent.

Type: Fellowship

Eligibility: Graduating seniors and young professionals from any accredited U.S. college or university are eligible to apply. Please note that prior Africa experience is NOT a requirement.

Value of Award: Princeton in Africa/fellowship organizations cover:

  • On the ground expenses, including housing and living stipend.
  • Visas/work permits.
  • Medical, medical evacuation, and security evacuation insurance.
  • Pre-departure orientation for all Fellows. Housing and meals are provided.
  • Mid-year Retreat in Africa. Housing and meals are provided. PiAf also provides a partial travel allowance to assist with travel to/from the Retreat.

Duration of Programme: Fellowships are 12 months long with Fellows beginning their work between June 11, 2019 (anytime after the Fellows’ orientation from June 5th – 10th, 2019) and September 2nd, 2019, and will complete their fellowships between June and September 2020, twelve months after their start date.

Important Notes: Princeton in Africa is committed to ensuring that all applicants are able to participate in the fellowship program regardless of financial need.  Once placed with a fellowship organization, PiAf has a financial aid application for Fellows with demonstrated need. PiAf will work with applicants to ensure that financial considerations do not prevent any applicant selected for a fellowship from participating.
