We are seeking qualified candidates for a newly developed opportunity: the Books For Africa African Diaspora Fellowship.

About the Award: The African Diaspora Fellowship is a two year commitment at the Books For Africa headquarters in St. Paul, Minnesota. Books For Africa is the largest shipper of donated text and library books to the African continent, shipping over 41 million books to all 54 countries on the African continent since 1988.

This is a 10-15 hour per week, at will position with an annual stipend range of $6,000-$10,000. This position is based at 370 Selby St. Paul, Minnesota 55102 (near bus lines and free street parking, however, no elevator to third floor office space). It requires having transportation to attend events and meetings in the Twin Cities community. Duties include:

  • Pursue new relationships with African Diaspora members and other potential donors or volunteers.
  • Represent Books For Africa at community events such as presenting to civic or school groups and assisting with fundraising events.
  • Provide support in the Books For Africa warehouse during book donation days.
  • Assist the office staff with data entry and assembling mailings, and other administrative duties as assigned.

Eligibility:

  • Two years college coursework or equivalent experience.
  • Experience volunteering or working for a charity.
  • Fluent written and spoken English. Knowledge of an African language a plus.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel.
  • Availability to perform duties both during office hours and some occasional evenings or weekends.
