Mellon Foundation in collaboration with the University of Pretoria would like to invite applications from students in the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.

About the Award: This Mellon Foundation-funded project seeks to encourage innovative studies drawing on the Archive and Counter-archive of resistance to colonialism, segregation and apartheid. Research should explore the relations of the South African state with its subjects and citizens from the early twentieth century to the present day.

Successful applicants will join a vibrant community of researchers at UP and engage with Pretoria’s rich archival repositories and collections.

  1. – A detailed CV including your postgraduate degrees and course components
  2. – An academic transcript
  3. – Contact details of two academic referees whom the Faculty may approach about your application.
  4. – An application letter of 1½ – 2 pages explaining your proposed area of research and how it fits into the programme.
