organisations/ Institution worldwide. If you are planning to study, live or work abroad, you will need to take an IELTS Exam but you should also verify from the school you want to study if they accept IELTS and/or other alternatives like TOEFL or Cambridge ESOL.

How to register for IELTS Nigeria

If you are planning and preparing to study abroad in UK, USA, Australia or any other native English speaking country, in most cases, you need to present an English Language qualification test as requirement for admission or even scholarship application. The British Council is responsible for the administration of the International English Language Test System IELTS Nigeria and several other African countries. The first to taking the International English Language test is identifying a date that is suitable for you and applying for the test. Then you should also consider taken classes to improve your chances of scoring high.

The UK education Agency now adopts a new way of sharing its test dates and venues with potential applicants on their website. The procedure comes in six steps which can be completed in 7minutes.

Step 1

First visit the https://ielts.britishcouncil.org/ and select country as Nigeria.

Step 2

Find the Test Date that is most suitable for you. To find an IELTS Exams IELTS date venueTest date in Nigeria, enter your criteria in the form. This will include the month you intend to take the test, the town (Abuja, Lagos or Port-Harcourt) and the module (Academic or General training), and then Find.

Step 3

Check Test Availability

This takes you to a list of available test dates for each venue in Abuja, Lagos and Port-Harcourt open for application and the percentage of application taken so far. Decide on the date that is most appropriate for you and click Apply.

Step 4

On the next page, you read and accept the Terms & Conditions for applying for the IELTS through British Council. Click Continue to the next page.

Step 5

On the next page, carefully fill the form for Candidate Details and continue to the next page. On the next page for the 6th step, confirm if the information you entered in step 5 is correct for Summary, then click to Apply Now

To complete your application, you are required to pay for your test place, and send all supporting documents to your test centre by the stated deadline. Your application will be cancelled if you do not do this by the stated deadline.

To Complete Your Application, you have to send within 5 days of registering

  • Bank Draft of N35,000.00 written in favour of British Council
  • 2 passport photographs
  • A copy of valid international passport
  • Printed summary sheet

Test Preparation

There are 4 components:

Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking.

Listening, Reading and Writing components of the test are done on the date you registered for while the speaking test could come up on another date within seven days before and seven days after the date you registered for.

Kindly note that you MUST appear with the original International Passport you registered with, for each of the components of the test.
