It has been agreed upon that DAAD cooperates with the African Paediatric Fellowship Programme (APFP) by offering up to six In-Region Scholarships for Master studies at APFP for the intake 2021.

Application Deadline: 2nd June 2020

Eligible Countries: Sub-saharan African countries

To be taken at (country): APFP, Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital, University of Cape Town

Field of Study: The scholarships at APFP are available in the following fields: Paediatrics

The scholarships at APFP are available in the paediatric subspecialties:
➢ Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
➢ Development Paediatrics
➢ Paediatric Allergology
➢ Paediatric Cardiology
➢ Paediatric Critical Care
➢ Paediatric Endocrinology
➢ Paediatric Gastroenterology
➢ Paediatric Infectious Diseases
➢ Paediatric Nephrology
➢ Paediatric Neurology
➢ Paediatric Oncology
➢ Paediatric Pulmonology
➢ Paediatric Rheumatology

Type: Masters

Eligibility: Applicants

  • have successfully completed generally a three-year university degree (Master candidates)) with above average results (upper forth of class)
  • clearly show motivation and strong commitment
  • have thorough knowledge of the language of instruction
  • have completed their last university degree not more than 6 years ago at the time of application
  • must be nationals or permanent resident of a Sub-Saharan African country (excluding South Africa)
  • should generally be a) staff member of a public university, b) candidate considered for teaching or research staff recruitment, c) from the public sector
  • Female applicants and candidates from less privileged regions or groups are especially encouraged to participate in the programme.

Number of Awards: 6

Value of Award: The scholarship covers:

  • Tuition and registration fees per year
  • Study and research allowance in EUR per year
  • Insurance  in EUR per year
  • Monthly Scholarship in EUR (Accommodation, food etc.)
  • Travel allowance
  • Final allowance in EUR (once-only at the end)
  • DAAD In-Country/In-Region scholarship holders are also encouraged to apply for a research stay in Germany for 2 up to 6 months. Please note: The short-term research stay in Germany should preferably be announced in the application for the regular scholarship and can only be awarded if the necessary financial means are available.

Duration of Award:  Scholarships are initially granted for one year and can be extended to upon receipt of an application for extension. Scholars must demonstrate satisfactory progress before an extension is granted.
