United Nations Call for Proposals: International High-Level Conference “Educating for the Rule of Law” 2019 (Fully-funded)

This event offers an exciting opportunity for youth. We want to hear from you about your experiences, hopes and ideas about the linkages between education and the rule of law!

About the Award:What can youth do to fight corruption, organized crime and other threats that are impacting our world? How can we make the world a trusted, safe and inclusive place? How is the rule of law influencing your life? How are you perceiving what policymakers are doing about challenges to just and fair societies? What recommendations do you have for the future? These questions should guide your entries. Apply now.

Type: Conference

Eligibility:

  • There will be three categories of applications, one for each of the education levels: primary, secondary and tertiary. If you are a student between the ages of 6-12 (primary), 13-18 (secondary) or 19-29 (tertiary) and believe strongly in the role of education for promoting the rule of law, we would love to involve you in our event.
  • We welcome new and innovative ideas and encourage the use of different media. Successful submissions will demonstrate how youth can take action to strengthen and promote the rule of law. Ideally, they will involve a personal connection to an E4J topic, which you can learn more about on the E4J website.
  • There will be a select number of entries that will be showcased to an international audience at the Vienna International Centre in Vienna, Austria. The winners’ work will also be featured on UNODC social media channels. Entries must not, at the reviewing panels’ discretion, contain obscene, provocative, defamatory, sexually explicit, or otherwise objectionable or inappropriate content.

Primary level requirements

Submissions can include: speeches, artwork including drawings, paintings and songs. Criteria for evaluation include: relevance to E4J topics, connectivity to rule of law, and level of creativity.

Secondary and tertiary requirements

Submissions can include: speeches, essays, songs/spoken word, poetry, or digital photos. Criteria for evaluation include: relevance to E4J topics, connectivity to rule of law, and level of creativity.

Number of Awards: 5

Value of Award: Successful proposal submitters will have the opportunity to come to Vienna to present their ideas to the participants of the conference. The top five successful applications will be invited to the event. Flights, meals, accommodation and cost for transportation in Vienna will be financed in accordance with UN rules.

Duration of Award: 7-9 October 2019.
