Unemployed graduates (18-35 years of age) are invited to apply to join the 2020/21 intake for the Department of Science and Innovation’s National Youth Service Programme. A total of 550 places are available, mainly for science, technology, engineering and mathematics graduates.

About the Award: The programme, which is part of the government-wide National Youth Service initiative, places selected volunteers at various institutions (e.g. schools, universities, science councils and NGOs) across the country, allowing them to gain workplace experience for 12 months while offering a service to the community.

Value of Award: Participating volunteers will be paid monthly stipends at the following scale:
NQF Level 6 | National diploma | R4 500 |
NQF Level 7 | Bachelor’s degree/BTech | R5 000 |
NQF Level 8 | Honours degree | R5 500 |
NQF Level 9 | Master’s degree | R6 500 |
NQF Level 10 | PhD | R7 700 |
Volunteers are responsible for their own travel and relocation costs.
