17 New Universities Join Coursera to bring free Courses Online

Today, Coursera announced 17 new universities – including four international universities- have signed agreements with the education technology company to bring courses online for free, in the fields of music, medicine, humanities, and courses on financial engineering, risk management among other courses from renowned professors.

Here’s a list of the new universities added on Wednesday:

• Berklee College of Music
• Brown University
• Columbia University
• Emory University
• Hebrew University of Jerusalem
• Hong Kong University of Science and Technology
• Mount Sinai School of Medicine
• The Ohio State University
• University of British Columbia
• University of California, Irvine
• University of Florida
• University of London
• University of Maryland
• University of Melbourne
• University of Pittsburgh
• Vanderbilt University
• Wesleyan University

Coursera now hosts more than 200 courses from 33 universities, with over 1.3 million students across the globe. Many of these courses are pushing the boundaries of what was thought to be possible to teach online.

Coursera, online learning platform was launched in April, and has quickly reached up to 1 million student users within four months. Since its debut, Coursera says it has “accelerated toward its mission to educate millions worldwide, building meaningful community engagement systems, and establishing advanced technologies to support learning online.”
