The programme has a master trainer approach and will have 100 academic staff in the first cohort, with a strong focus on technology-enhanced teaching and learning approaches and strategies. Following a regional breakdown, the lecturers’ capacity development component of the programme will target up to 900 academic staff in an online and hybrid format.
The content areas of the programme are:
- teaching and learning
- academic development
- curriculum development and assessment
- research and scholarship
- ICT and data analytics
- educational leadership
- academic entrepreneurialism
- personal development.
The first part of the programme will start in May 2021.
Type: Training
Eligibility: Professors, associate professors, senior lecturers, lecturers and junior lecturers are invited to apply for the Higher Education Leadership and Management (HELM) University Lecturer Development Programme (ULDP).
- With regard to the selection of forty (40) academic staff members per university, it is envisaged that these individuals:
- Should be drawn from the ranks of the following job categories – Professor, Associate Professor, Senior Lecturer, Lecturer and Junior Lecturer;
- Should include academic staff who have participated or still participating in the DHET’s NGAP programme;
- Should have a range of teaching experience and disciplines, depending on each university’s self-identified needs and priorities; and
- Be prepared to commit to fully participating in the online and/or hybrid, part-time, mostly synchronous programme over a 3 month period.

How to Apply: Interested academics must complete the relevant forms and submit them to the Office of the DVC: Teaching and Learning via email by no later than Monday, 22 February. Incomplete forms will not be accepted.
