UK GREAT Scholarships for a Sustainable Future Scheme 2021 for Nigerian & Pakistani Students

Launched in partnership with the British Council and the UK government’s GREAT Britain Campaign, the GREAT Scholarships for a Sustainable Future scheme offers scholarships to qualifying students from Egypt, Nigeria, Pakistan, Turkey and Vietnam to undertake postgraduate taught studies in the UK from autumn 2021 in climate change related courses.

About the Award: The GREAT Scholarships for a Sustainable Future are designed to widen access to climate change courses in the UK and create a cohort of young spokespeople for positive change. They will enable 26 international environmentally minded students to advance their education in the UK and be well positioned to pursue green jobs, supporting delivery of transformational change.

This scholarship scheme is part of a global cultural relations programme being led by the British Council to add value to COP26 (the United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties), which the UK is hosting in Glasgow in November 2021. This will be the largest international climate change summit the UK has hosted, bringing together over 30,000 delegates including heads of states, climate experts and campaigners to agree coordinated action to tackle climate change.

Eligibility: At the University of Edinburgh, the Scholarships will be awarded to nationals and residents of Nigeria and Pakistan who are accepted for admission on a full-time basis for only the MSc in Climate Change Finance and Investment.

Selection Criteria: The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic merit. Candidates must have, or expect to obtain, the overseas equivalent of a UK first-class honours degree. Candidate should also demonstrate how they would be ambassadors for climate change. 

Eligible Countries: Under the University of Edinburgh, two Scholarships at the value of ÂŁ10,000 will be available for nationals from Pakistan and Nigeria applying to the MSc in Climate Change, Finance and Investment.

Value of Award: Each scholarship will award an amount of ÂŁ10,000 which will be deducted from your tuition fees and will be tenable for one academic year.
