Calling on master’s students, doctoral students and young researchers to work together across academic, social, geographic, cultural and legislative boundaries on combating plastic waste and preventing marine pollution.
The second year of the programme will engage a new group of participants (and their supervisors) from South Africa and Norway to work towards multi-disciplinary solutions to plastic pollution. Participants will work in small groups, where each group will focus on a specific, predetermined topic relating to a particular aspect of ocean plastic waste.
Each group will have a coordinating member and a combination of nationalities to promote networking and collaboration while participants work individually at their home institutions.

The kick-off workshop will take place virtually with the concluding, in person workshops in South Africa in May 2022.

Travel, excursion, and accommodation expenses will be sponsored by The Norwegian Retailers’ Environment Fund. Should travel restrictions persist due to Covid-19 we will evaluate and adjust the programme accordingly.
The programme will begin digitally in October 2021, followed by ± 5 months of remote work, concluding with
poster presentations at the AMWN’s Towards Zero Plastics to the Seas of Africa conference in Nelson Mandela Bay, South Africa in May 2022. The digital programme will include a meet and greet, review of the challenges, and formation of working groups

10 September 2021 and accompanied by a letter of support by supervisor or manager. Applications
should indicate the top three topic choices and include a brief description of expected outcomes.
