University of Johannesburg: Open Call for Postdoctoral Research Fellows (2022/23)

Tell Me About Award:

UJ has 200 new postdoctoral fellowships for the 2022/2023 period. We are looking for dynamic candidates who are interested in working on innovative solutions to problems related to the fourth industrial revolution (4IR) as well as on ways of exploiting the transformative potential of 4IR technologies in addressing the global Sustainable Development Goals. The call is, however, not limited to these topics.

The University of Johannesburg (UJ) is a vibrant and cosmopolitan university, anchored in Africa, dynamically shaping the future through innovation and the collaborative pursuit of knowledge, and striving towards global excellence and stature (GES).

Which Fields are Eligible?

Fields related to the fourth industrial revolution (4IR) as well as on ways of exploiting the transformative potential of 4IR technologies in addressing the global Sustainable Development Goals. The call is, however, not limited to these topics.

Who can apply?

The Postdoctoral Research Fellowships will be awarded on a competitive basis, considering the candidate’s academic achievements, potential as an independent researcher and the extent to which s/he meets the requirements of the call. Candidates should approach suitable hosts at UJ in their field of research expertise before applying. Successful candidates will be expected to contribute to research productivity and impact in multidisciplinary research involving the multiple academic entities that are aligned to 4IR. UJ runs an incubation programme through its Technology Transfer Office (TTO). Successful
applicants, with their supervisor(s), will have the opportunity to further their research, innovation and commercialisation ambitions through this and other programmes.

How are Applicants Selected?

• A PhD obtained within the last five years
• Full CV with contact details for three referees
• A proposal outlining the plan for the fellowship
