We invite you to submit contributions for consideration for the 2023 issue of the South African Intellectual Property Law Journal. Apply below.

When is Application Deadline: Submissions are accepted on an ongoing basis, however, the final submission date for consideration for the 2023 issue is 15th July 2023.

Tell Me About Award: The South African Intellectual Property Law Journal (IPLJ) strives to be the journal of choice for academics, practitioners and students of intellectual property law. It focuses on intellectual property law and policy. Its primary scope of coverage is South Africa. However, it publishes papers on intellectual property law and policy from other jurisdictions, especially in Africa, with relevance to the South African context.

Type: Call for Papers

Who can Apply? Contributions on all aspects of intellectual property law which have relevance to Africa, and in particular South Africa, are welcome. Submissions should be in the form of articles between 5000 and 10 000 words, or notes between 3000 and 4000 words. Submissions must be of a scholarly nature and offer a contribution to the knowledge in the field. A maximum of three notes will be published per issue.

How are Applicants Selected? All contributions must conform to the SAIPLJ house style and must not have been published elsewhere. The SAIPLJ is an accredited journal and all submissions are subject to a double-blind peer review process.

Authors must ensure that their contributions conform to the house style of the IPLJ, as set out below. This is a general guide; it is not possible to cover every possible referencing and stylistic instance. Where this document does not provide assistance, authors are requested to consider one of the following:

  • consult the house style for Juta’s South African Law Journal (SALJ) available via www.jutalaw.co.za (bearing in mind that in the case of conflict, the IPLJ Style Guide takes precedence), or
  • contact the editors at Editoriplj@uct.ac.za for assistance
