Table of Contents
The 4th Edition of the Feminist Peace Series aims to explore the interconnectedness between gender, climate change, and conflict with a specific focus on women’s role in promoting environmental sustainability and peacebuilding. It recognizes that climate change is not just an environmental issue but also a social and gender issue that disproportionately affects women and exacerbates conflicts.
Background
Climate change impacts such as extreme weather events, food insecurity, water scarcity and displacement have profound social and economic consequences. Women, particularly those in marginalized communities are disproportionately affected due to their socially constructed roles, limited access to resources and systematic gender inequalities. Recognising these gendered impacts is crucial to addressing the complex challenges of climate change
Climate change can and is a threat multiplier, exacerbating existing tensions and contributing to the outbreak or escalation of conflicts. Scarce resources, competition over land and water, forced migration and disrupted livelihoods can create fertile ground for conflict. However, sustainable environmental practices and inclusive decision-making processes can contribute to peacebuilding efforts and enhance community resilience.
Objectives
Through diverse artistic expressions such as articles, poems, photographs, artwork, etc. this edition of Feminist Peace Series sets out to achieve the following objectives
This edition underscores the importance of recognizing and harnessing women’s roles in addressing the complex interconnectedness between gender, climate change and conflict. By promoting gender equality, empowering women and integrating their perspectives into policies and programs, we can foster environmental sustainability and build peaceful societies resilient to the challenges of a changing climate.
