Tell Me About University of Alicante Sub-Saharan African Women Researchers Programme:
Programme promoted by the Office of the Vice President for International Relations and Development Cooperation of the University of Alicante, in collaboration with the Ministry of Participation, Transparency, Cooperation and Democratic Quality, of the Valencian Government. The grants are aimed at women researchers in the predoctoral or postdoctoral stage who, being nationals of one of the countries established in this call, need to complete their training by carrying out short-term research stays at the UA. for the development of their doctoral thesis or research.
The specific objective of this call is to award, on a competitive basis, grants for women researchers at the predoctoral or postdoctoral stage, who have the nationality of one of the African countries established in this call and who need to complete their training by carrying out short research stays at the University of Alicante, UA, for the development of their doctoral thesis or research.
There are two modalities in which these grants are offered:
- Modality A. Short predoctoral stays (Annex I).
- Modality B. Short postdoctoral stays (Annex II).

Who Can Apply for University of Alicante Sub-Saharan African Women Researchers Programme?
a) The applicant shall be a female researcher from a Sub-Saharan African country listed at https://unstats.un.org/unsd/methodology/m49/ (search for “Geographic Regions” and “Sub-Saharan Africa”).
b) The applicant must have obtained the approval of the research project presented to a research group of the University of Alicante and be accepted in the above-mentioned group, specifying the line of research she will be joining.
c) The applicant shall not receive other grants of a similar nature, charged to any budget of any other administration or public or private entity, national or foreign, to carry out the stay at the UA during the period requested.
d) The applicant shall carry out the activity that is the object of the grant within the period established in this call for applications.
e) The applicant shall not be in any of the circumstances listed in article 13.2 of Law 38/2003, General Law on Subsidies.
f) The applicant shall not hold a residence permit in Spain, except for study/research purposes.

HOW MANY AWARDS?
The number of grants and their amount will depend on the duration of the stay and the number of applicants, with a maximum of 13 grants.
What Is The Benefit Of University of Alicante Sub-Saharan African Women Researchers Programme?
- €1,800 maximum, for reimbursement of travel expenses, documentary proof provided.
- €1,200 per month as a subsistence allowance to cover the costs of accommodation and meals. Those corresponding to accommodation shall include documentary proof.
The payment will be made in the form of a travel allowance, subject to the corresponding tax withholding.
HOW LONG WILL AWARD LAST?
The duration of the stay will be a minimum of three months and a maximum of six months, in a period between the publication of the resolution of the grant -on the website of the Office for University Cooperation for Development https://sri.ua.es/es/cooperacion/convocatorias/m-africa/programamujeres-subsaharianas.html- and May 31st
, 2024.
