Uppsala University’s Forum for Africa Studies (http://www.afrikastudier.uu.se/en/) is an interdisciplinary center with the aim of initiating, supporting and making visible Africa-related research within the university. The Forum facilitates contact between researchers and the spread of research on Africa between institutions and centers within Uppsala University, as well as with external partners. It runs research projects, organizes lectures and panel discussions, and leads a seminar series in Africa Studies.
The Forum for Africa Studies is hosted by the Department of Cultural Anthropology and Ethnology (http://antro.uu.se/). Forum members also participate in the department’s courses in the field African Studies. Since January 2023, the Forum for Africa Studies extends to all three disciplinary domains at Uppsala University: the humanities and social sciences, medicine and pharmacy, and science and technology, and forms part of Uppsala University’s Africa Initiative, supported with special funds from the Vice-Chancellor.
The task is mainly to develop and conduct research in African Anthropology as a research of the Forum for Africa Studies. In addition to this, there is teaching corresponding to one course per semester and certain research administrative tasks. The research can be newly started and/or consist of reworking a doctoral dissertation into a monograph published by an international publisher. The successful applicant is expected to actively participate in seminars and other activities in Uppsala, be a resource for the graduate students, and contribute to the development of the research environment of the Forum for Africa Studies.
