The Clark-Alonso Africa Scholarship is designed to encourage research on sub-Saharan Africa in the Department of Politics and International Relations at FIU. The scholarship fund awards $1,000 each year to the graduate student in the Department who produces the best published paper (or conference paper) on the politics or international relations of sub-Saharan Africa.
Scholarship
The scholarship will be awarded to students enrolled at FIU, seeking a graduate degree in either International Relations or in Political Science in the Steven J. Green School of International and Public Affairs. Recipients must have produced a published paper on the politics or international relations of sub-Saharan Africa or presented a paper at the annual African Studies Association conference, or other national conferences. The paper must have been published, accepted for publication, or presented at a conference during the previous calendar year.
A three-person faculty panel will review applications and determine the scholarship winner. In exceptional cases, the panel may announce joint winners (in which case the scholarship will be divided between the two).
Award will be presented at the Department’s annual Welcome Back Grads event (early in the Fall semester).
