The exciting two-month Ewgis Research Institute (ERI) program aims to empower young women in STEM fields by promoting excellence in academics and research. Ewgis, led by Girls in STEM, seeks to address socioeconomic gaps in high school and college students’ access to scientific research as well as mentorship, networking, and skill development opportunities.

About the Ewgis Research Institute:
Ewgis is dedicated to supporting young women in STEM fields who want to excel in academics and research. The program gives participants the chance to actively participate in faculty-led theoretical research projects while also providing mentorship, networking, and skill development opportunities.

What to Expect:
Ewgis 2024 presents two editions: the Professional Development Program and the Research Institute. Both initiatives aim to empower young women in STEM by providing mentorship, skill development workshops, networking opportunities, and insights from successful women in STEM.
Professional Development Program:
- 1:1 Mentorship with STEM professionals
- Networking opportunities with industry leaders and peers
- Essential STEM skills workshops
- Panel discussions featuring successful women in STEM
- A community-focused project addressing local issues
Ewgis Research Institute:
- 1:1 Mentorship with STEM PhD students, postdocs, and professors
- Networking opportunities with professionals and peers
- Workshops for academic and research excellence
- Panel discussions featuring successful women in STEM
- Contribution to faculty-led theoretical research projects
Application Requirements:
- High school juniors to college juniors with majors or intended majors in specified STEM disciplines
- A GPA of at least 3.0 is preferred for mentee applicants (not required).
- Commitment to 4 hours of independent work on the project and 2 hours of weekly meetings with mentors for a total of 6 hours per week for 2 months
Ewgis Selection Process:
- Inclusive approach focusing on dedication, motivation, and potential for success
- Priority is given to applicants from low-income families.
- Selection based on demonstrated motivation and compatibility
- Decisions by girls in the STEM team are final.
Ewgis Timeline:
- Jan 25th–February 29th: Applications Open
- Mar 1st – Mar 7th: Results Announcement
- Mar 14th: Ewgis Opening Ceremony
- Mar 15th – May 9th: Program Duration
- May 10th: Ewgis Closing Ceremony
