Canada grants post-graduate students a longer work permit for 3 years after graduation. Immigration Canada announces that they have updated details on the provincial letter of attestation requirements for post-graduate international students in Canada.

The Ministry released more information in addition to the new regulations pertaining to master’s and doctorate degree holders’ post-study work rights and the limitations placed on students’ employment options in public-private partnerships.

Provincial Attestation Letter for International Students in Canada

A letter of attestation must be submitted with the study permit application for the majority of new international post-secondary students, whether they are undergraduate or college students.

The most recent statement, which was released on February 5, states that any application that is received after this date and does not include a regional letter of certification will be returned.

Students who applied for study permits before the effective date of this decision, January 22, and who have already been granted permission to do so will be granted an exemption.

Students pursuing master’s or doctoral degrees should be aware that provincial attestation letters are required for applications to non-degree-granting postgraduate programs (such as certificates and postgraduate diplomas).

Following their graduation from a master’s program lasting less than two years, students who successfully complete all other requirements will be awarded an extended work permit, which will be valid for three years beginning on February 15, 2024.

Additionally, the IRCC emphasized that foreign students currently enrolled in courses offered by public-private partnerships will be qualified for work permits upon graduation. On September 1, 2024, however, new students who enroll in these programs will not be eligible for the PGWP.
