Applications are now open for the 2025 Elizabeth Neuffer Fellowship for Women Journalists.
The Elizabeth Neuffer Fellowship offers women and nonbinary journalists who cover social justice and human rights chances for academic and professional advancement. The Fellowship was established in honor of Elizabeth Neuffer, a Boston Globe correspondent and 1998 recipient of the IWMF Courage in Journalism Award, who passed away on May 9, 2003, while covering the war in Iraq. The IWMF launched this program in cooperation with Neuffer’s friends and family in order to carry on her legacy and further her work in the social justice and human rights movements.
Women and nonbinary journalists with at least three years of experience working as staff or freelance journalists in print, broadcast, or internet media are eligible for the Neuffer Fellowship. While applications are accepted from people of all nations, non-native English speakers must have very good written and spoken English to take full advantage of the program. The Fellow will finish coursework and research at MIT’s Center for International Studies in addition to doing journalism internships at The New York Times and The Boston Globe. The program’s adaptable format gives the fellows the chance to conduct scholarly studies and improve their reporting abilities. Former fellows have seized the chance to publish their work under their byline through a variety of media outlets.
