SURF Fellowship Benefits
If you participate in the SURF fellowship program at Houston University in 2024, then you will be entitled to receive:

- Scholarship Award: A $4,000 scholarship is awarded to each participant.
- Academic Recognition: Participants earn three Honors in Co-Curricular Engagement points.
- Expert Mentorship: Research is conducted under the guidance of UH’s full-time faculty members.

Eligibility Criteria
- Who Can Apply? This SURF program is open to rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors across all majors with a minimum GPA of 3.0. For students with fewer than 12 UH credit hours, a 3.5 GPA is required.
- Restrictions: Freshmen transitioning to sophomores by Fall 2024 are eligible, whereas students graduating in Spring or Summer 2024, those previously enrolled in SURF, and current graduate program students are not.

Application Details
- Online Submission: Applicants must fill out an online form, submit a research statement (500 words max), answer two short questions about their academic and research background, and provide the name of their faculty mentor for the recommendation letter.
- Research Statement: This should detail the importance and goals of the research and the tasks to be performed. It must be self-written, clear, and error-free.
- Letter of Recommendation: A comprehensive letter from the faculty mentor is required, outlining the student’s qualifications and the mentor’s role in the proposed research.
