About the University of Liverpool PhD Research Scholarship 2024

One of the reasons why this scholarship was created is to help address some of the challenges facing us today. The EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Net Zero Maritime Energy Solutions (N0MES) is offering a unique opportunity for ambitious researchers to explore the optimization of trenching techniques for subsea cable installation. 

This is a crucial aspect of renewable energy infrastructure. The scholarship is open to candidates from all over the world, and it covers full tuition and a competitive stipend for four years. Applicants must have a Master’s degree in an appropriate field of engineering or expect to obtain one by the commencement date. Exceptional candidates with a First-Class Bachelor’s Degree may also be considered.

Scholarship Benefits

Project Focus

Additionally, the scholarship is focused on improving the efficiency of subsea cable installations, which are essential for transmitting power from offshore renewable energy sources, such as wind, tidal, and solar farms, to the mainland. The project aims to achieve the following objectives: 

• Enhance and refine particle finite element models to more accurately simulate the dynamic interactions between cutting tools and seabed soils. 
• Validate these models through both experimental and industry-partner data. 
• Develop new methodologies to improve the efficiency of the trenching process, which will influence future industry practices.
