Graduate Scholarships at Seoul National University for international students 

Below is the list of available graduate scholarships at the Seoul National University for international students: 

1. Silk-Road Scholarship

The Silk Road scholarship is for intern students who want to pursue their master’s or PHD at the university. However, interested applicants for this fully funded scholarship must meet the following eligibility requirements to be considered:

Degree Offered: Master’s and PhD

Eligible countries: Students from the Silk region (Myanmar, Vietnam, Laos, Indonesia, Cambodia, Thailand, Nepal, Afghanistan, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Yemen, Iran, Turkey, Egypt, Ethiopia, Hungary, Russia) are eligible. 

Scholarship benefits:  The benefits of the Silk-Road scholarship include: 

  • 100% tuition fee for at most 4 semesters
  • KRW 600,000 monthly for at most 4 semesters
  • KRW 1,000,000 worth of economy roundtrip airfare
  • 100% fee for Korean Language Training

2. Graduate Scholarship for Excellent Foreign Students (GSFS)

Studying abroad as an international student at this time can be quite expensive due to the current economic situation globally. Hence, the reason why opportunities like the Graduate Scholarship for Excellent Foreign Students are made available at the Seoul National University for qualified students. The Graduate Scholarship for Excellent Foreign Students (GSFS) is open to Master’s and PhD international students who meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Students enrolling in a college or school that participates in the GSFS Program for the year. 

Scholarship Benefits: The scholarship benefits include

  • 100% tuition fee for 4 semesters at most
  • At least KRW 500,000 monthly depending on the student’s major

Application Process: Candidates are to apply and gain admission to the university before they begin the scholarship application process.

3. SNU President Fellowship Program (SPF)

SNU President Fellowship Program (SPF) is a fully funded scholarship offered to PhD students at Seoul National University. Students need to meet the following requirements to be eligible:

  • a teacher without a Ph.D. degree in a prominent university located in a developing country

Scholarship benefits: successful applicants are granted the following benefits:

  • 100% tuition fee
  • KRW 1, 500,000 ~ 2,000,000 monthly for 3~4 years
  • economy class round-trip airfare
  • Korean language training slot
  • reimbursement of the National Health Insurance fee

4.  Korean Government Scholarship Program (KGSP/GKS)

International students applying for Seoul National University graduate programs can apply for the Korean Government Scholarship Program. Every year, 40-60 recipients get to benefit from this scholarship to help with the cost of their education. 

Scholarship Benefits: the benefits of the scholarship include: 

  • Full tuition fee: tuition exemption for 4 semesters for Master’s program and 6 semesters for Ph. D program
  • Monthly Allowance: 1,308,330 KRW per month. The monthly allowance includes expenses for living and studying in Korea, such as living expenses, textbooks, insurance premiums, TOPIK scholarships, thesis printing costs, etc.
  • Airfare: one economy round trip
  • Korean language training fee: for one year. Korean language training is mandatory and when the student does not achieve TOPIK grade 3 within a year, she/he is not eligible to enter the degree program
  • Others: medical insurance, research fund, thesis printing fees, settlement and returning expenses
