Applications are now open for the American Association of University Women (AAUW) International Fellowship. Interested and qualified applicants can now begin to send in their applications. 

About The American Association of University Women (AAUW) International Fellowship

The American Association of University Women (AAUW) International Fellowship is open to women who are not United States citizens or permanent residents and are eligible to receive International Fellowships for full-time study or research. These fellowships are intended to support graduate or postgraduate studies at accredited institutions. The selection of recipients is based on academic achievement and demonstrated commitment to women and girls. The vast majority of recipients return to their home countries to become leaders in various fields such as government, academia, community activism, the arts, and science.

A limited number of awards are available for study outside of the U.S. (excluding the applicant’s home country) to women who are members of Graduate Women International (see the list of GWI affiliates). Both graduate and postgraduate studies at accredited U.S. institutions are supported.

Applicants must have earned the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor’s degree by the application deadline and must have applied to their proposed institutions of study by the time of the application. Recipients are selected for academic achievement and demonstrated commitment to women and girls. 

Recipients return to their home countries to become leaders in business, government, academia, community activism, and the arts or scientific fields.

Application Deadline

The fellowship opens on August 1st every year and closes on November 15th every year. 

Fellowship Benefit

The fellowship benefits are as follows: 

  • Master’s/first professional degree: $20,000
  • Doctoral: $25,000
  • Postdoctoral: $50,000

Eligibility Criteria for the American Association of University Women (AAUW) International Fellowship

Applicants who want to register for the American Association of University Women (AAUW) International Fellowship must meet the following criteria:

  • Applicants must have earned the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor’s degree by September 30, 2017, and must have applied to their proposed institutions of study by the time of the application. 
  • Up to five International Master’s/First Professional Degree Fellowships are renewable for a second year. 
  • Recipients are selected for academic achievement and demonstrated commitment to women and girls. 
  • Recipients return to their home countries to become leaders in business, government, academia, community activism, the arts, and sciences.

Application Process

The application process for the American Association of University Women (AAUW) International Fellowship is online. Also, notification of decisions is emailed to all applicants.
