The Women for Africa Foundation (Foundation MxA), in line with its mission of contributing to the development of Africa through the drive of its women, launched the Science by Women program, with the aims of promoting African women’s leadership in scientific research and technology transfer and fostering the capacity of the research centres in their home countries. The program’s ultimate goal is to support African women researchers in playing a leading role in the transition of the continent to a knowledge-based and innovation-led economy and thereby in the transformation of people’s daily lives.
The Science by Women program, initiated by the Women for Africa Foundation, aims to empower African women in scientific research and technology transfer to tackle crucial challenges across various sectors such as health, agriculture, food security, water, energy, and climate change. It offers post-doctoral fellowships in collaboration with renowned Spanish Centers of Excellence.

Elegible applicants must meets the following requirements:
Beneficiaries of previous editions of this program are not eligible.
The evaluation and selection criteria include: quality, environmental and economic sustainability, social impact and commitment to gender equality.
One finalist project will be selected for each category. After the selection, the winning scientist will receive 50% of the total amount (after deducting the applicable tax of 24%) and, after two months, will have to submit the technical and economic report. Once approved by the Women for Africa Foundation, she will receive the final balance of 50% of the total amount (after deduction of the applicable tax of 24%)

Successful candidates will have access to the following benefits:
All beneficiaries of the Science by Women program are responsible for securing their own accommodation for the duration of the 6-month fellowship stay in their host city.
The duration of the fellowship is 6 continuous months, to be completed within 1 year and a half or 2 years, depending on the host research entity, starting from the date of publication of the final selection of beneficiaries.
All applications must include the following documents:
*All research proposals must be related to the topics and line of research indicated by the Spanish host entity of choice. If you shall choose to apply to more than one (1) host entity, you must adapt the research proposal when appropriate.
**All research proposals must be validated by the Spanish host entity, reason why we facilitate the information of the entity’s contact person. As proof of confirmation, you can upload a confirmation email, letter or any other document that shows the Spanish host entity’s approval.
