Bringing together the best of AU—academic excellence, leadership development, and global engagement—AU Emerging Global Leader Scholars achieve, inspire, and serve with vision. - A minimum 3.8 GPA or the top 10% of the graduating class for 9th-12th grades is necessary.
- Candidates must show commitment to leadership, volunteerism, community service, and helping people in their home country.
- Students need specific test scores, such as 95+ TOEFL iBT, 7.0+ IELTS, or equivalent on other standardized tests.
- Applicants must be in secondary/high school and graduating by June 2025, with specific criteria for IB and British A-Level students.

What is the Benefit of the Award?
Also, the American University Emerging Global Leader Scholarship 2025 covers full tuition, room, and board for two international students requiring a non-immigrant visa to study in the U.S. It does not cover non-billable expenses like health insurance, books, airline tickets, taxes, and miscellaneous costs, which total approximately $4,000 per year.
How to Apply:
- Complete and submit the Common Application or Coalition Application with all required documents per the AU international instructions checklist before December 1, 2024.
- Submit a bank letter and the AU Declaration of Finances Form (AU DFF), each confirming a minimum of US$4,000. These can be uploaded via your applicant portal or sent as PDF attachments to: [email protected]. See examples of bank letters.
- Submit your official TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo English, PTE, or Cambridge Assessment English Test score results before December 1, 2024. Please have official English proficiency score reports sent directly by the testing agency to American University, Undergraduate Admissions, Washington, District of Columbia. Note: Students cannot submit their results.
- Students who do not submit a complete application packet with all supporting documents by the deadline will not be reviewed.
- If you are applying through a program supported by EducationUSA or if you are a past FLEX or YES high school scholarship recipient from the U.S. Department of State, please provide a letter from your EducationUSA center’s adviser confirming your candidacy. You may request for the letter to [email protected] as a PDF.
- Inf your application is unsuccessful, you may still be gain admission to American University, Washington, DC, and eligible for partial merit scholarships. However, to continue the application process, you will need to submit proof of funds totaling up to US$81,620 (estimated costs for the first year of study).
