Tell Me About the Sir James McNeill Postgraduate Research Scholarship:

This scholarship (SJMN) is funded by a private trust in memory of Sir James McNeill, who had a long association with Monash University. It supports graduate research students with living costs while they undertake environmentally responsible and socially beneficial research.

This scholarship is open to research within the faculties of:

• Arts (School of Music only)
• Engineering
• Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences
• Science

• New Zealand citizens
• Australian permanent residents
• Australian humanitarian visa holders

Applicants must:

• Have submitted a scholarship application in the year the scholarship is offered
• Be undertaking research that is environmentally responsible and socially beneficial
• Meet Monash’s competitive scholarship selection process requirements
• Meet Monash English language proficiency requirements

Selection is based on academic record, research outputs, and prior research experience. The standard RTP Scholarships terms and conditions apply, with exceptions outlined in the eligibility criteria.

1. Applications for graduate research scholarships are done at the time of applying for your course, unless you are already enrolled.
2. A single application is used for both admission and scholarships. Applicants are automatically considered for all graduate research scholarships they are eligible for.
3. Ensure you have obtained an invitation to apply from the relevant faculty before starting your application.
