University of Western States Scholarships are awarded primarily on the strength of application but may include consideration of academic merit and/or other qualifying factors. All scholarships are applied to tuition and may be open to students in all programs and to both U.S. citizens and residents of other countries. We encourage applicants to review the criteria carefully to determine their eligibility.

About the University of Western States Scholarships
The University of Western States admits students of any race, color, nationality, ethnic origin, sex, or age to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the university.
The Office of Financial Aid will notify applicants in writing via email who have been selected to receive scholarships. If the scholarship is more than $1,000, the total scholarship will be disbursed to student accounts evenly during that year unless otherwise noted as part of the scholarship award. Awards less than $1,000 will be disbursed in total during the term in which the scholarship is available.

When is the application deadline?
The Fall 2024 scholarship application will be open through September 9, 2024. Applications received after this date will not be reviewed.
#1. Community and Social Justice Leadership Scholarship
UWS is proud to announce the new Community and Social Justice Leadership Scholarship. This scholarship recognizes and honors current students who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to community engagement and social justice.
Scholarship awards: $1,000 to two recipients
Eligibility Criteria:
- Enrollment in any program for Fall 2024
- Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above
- Essay: (350 word minimum, 500 word maximum.) 12-point font, double spaced)
Essay Question:
Describe the ways in which you have demonstrated leadership in community engagement and social justice as a student at the University of Western States. How did your involvement impact both yourself and others?
Strong essay responses may include:
- Demonstrating a commitment to community engagement on or off-campus
- Evidence of engaging in activities that promote health equity/social justice outside of academic studies
- Demonstrating leadership abilities in guiding and inspiring others towards community and social justice initiatives
You must have demonstrated actions and initiatives during your time as a UWS student.
#2. The Dr. Jan Neal Scholarship for Technology
Dr. Jan Neal, UWS DC class of โ86, established this scholarship to ease the financial burden of future chiropractic physicians by helping defer the costs of technology required for the doctor of chiropractic (DC) program by providing this scholarship for technology purchases needed for education. Dr. Neal remembers the quarterly struggle to find money to buy supplies, equipment, and last-minute classroom materials when she was a student and wants to help ease that burden on current students.
Scholarship award: $500 to 20 recipients
Eligibility criteria:
- Enrollment in the Doctor of Chiropractic program for Fall 2024
- Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above
- Essay: (350 word minimum, 500 word maximum.) 12-point font, double spaced)

#3. The Dr. Richard Tilden Diversity in Healthcare Scholarship
Whole-person health includes the entire person, their lived experiences, and their ways of being. UWS recognizes that a racially and ethnically diverse student body benefits and enriches the educational experiences of our community. UWS also acknowledges the need to increase diversity within the chiropractic profession to better serve communities of color. The university offers the Dr. Richard Tilden Diversity in Healthcare scholarship funded by The CHP Group to support ongoing advancement towards achieving racial equity among doctors of chiropractic medicine.
Scholarship Award: $1,000 to nine recipients
Eligibility Criteria:
- A commitment to expanding racial and ethnic diversity in the chiropractic professionย
- Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above
- Must be an incoming or returning chiropractic student.
- One (1) letter of reference from an instructor or professor, member of a community organization, or employer
- Essay: (350 word minimum, 500 word maximum.) 12-point font, double-spaced)
Essay Question:
As a practicing chiropractic physician, describe the role(s) you will play serving and treating a diverse community of patients, their families, and their communities.
Strong essay responses may include:
- Insight into your lived experience, identity, community, and/or culture
- A commitment to expanding or supporting health equity and inclusion in the chiropractic profession
- An interest in working with populations that are and have been underserved by the chiropractic profession
#3. The Dr. Steve Oliver Chiropractic Memorial Scholarship
The Dr. Steve Edward Oliver memorial scholarship was established by his partner Ray Matlock Smythe, BA, MAT, in 2023 to help ease the financial burden of future chiropractic physicians. This scholarship will be awarded in the fall term to one returning student enrolled in the Doctor of Chiropractic program.
Scholarship Award: $5,000 to one recipient
Eligibility Criteria:
- Enrollment in the chiropractic program for at least one year.
- Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above
- One letter of reference from an instructor or professor, member of a community organization, or employer
- Essay: (350 word minimum, 500 word maximum.) 12-point font, double spaced)
Essay Question:
Why did you choose to become a chiropractor? What are your chief goals for being a successful physician? Describe how you envision your role as a practicing chiropractic physician in the community. What is your commitment to treating a diverse community, and how will you treat people of diverse backgrounds?

#4. Standard Process Scholarship
The whole food philosophy of Standard Process was developed in 1929 by the companyโs founder, Dr. Royal Lee, who believed โthe best sources of vitamins and minerals are found in whole foods.โ
Scholarship Award: $5,000 to two recipients
Eligibility Criteria:
- Enrollment in the chiropractic program for at least one year.
- Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above
- One letter of reference from an instructor or professor, member of a community organization, or employer
- Essay: (350 word minimum, 500 word maximum.) 12-point font, double spaced)
Essay Question:
As a practicing chiropractor, there will be many modalities you can employ to deliver optimal patient care. What is the importance of nutrition in achieving patientsโs health goals? How do you plan to incorporate education, and what type of supplementation will you include as part of your treatment plans?
#5. The Dr. Michael Horowitz & Dr. Jeannie Gutierrez Immigrant/FFirst Generation Scholarship
The Dr. Michael Horowitz & Dr. Jeannie Gutierrez Scholarship was established at each of the colleges and universities within The Community Solution Education System to support students who self-identify as first-generation, immigrant to the U.S., or child of immigrant(s) to the US (โFirst Generation Americanโ). This scholarship was established to enable immigrant and/or first-generation students to blaze a new trail of success for their families and in their communities. This scholarship is available for both online and on campus degree programs.
Scholarship Award: $5,000 to one recipient
Eligibility Criteria:
- Candidates must have applied for admission to the University of Western States by the application deadline or be continuing students in good standing.ย
- Self-identify as a first-generation graduate student or immigrant to the U.S.
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above
- Essay: (350 word minimum, 500 word maximum.) 12-point font, double spaced)
Essay:
Candidates must submit an essay by the application due date describing their academic goals. If applicable, candidates should demonstrate that they are first generation college-going, an immigrant to the U.S., or the child of an immigrant(s) to the U.S. Candidates are advised to include information concerning their prior community service contributions and academic achievement in their essay.

#6. Chiropractorsโ Association of Saskatchewan Scholarship
The Chiropractorsโ Association of Saskatchewan is pleased to provide a scholarship opportunity for Saskatchewan students enrolled in the Doctor of Chiropractic program at the University of Western States.
Scholarship award: $1,000 USD to one recipient
Eligibility Criteria:
- Candidates must be continuing students in Q5+ enrolled in the chiropractic program.
- Self-identify as a student from Saskatchewan, planning to return to Saskatchewan to practice.
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above

#7. Chiro One Wellness Center Scholarship
The Chiro One Wellness Centersโ Scholarship is one of many manifestations of Chiro One Wellness Centersโ unique vision, โthat all human beings discover their full potential.โ Co-Founder Dr. Sam Wang believes that support for the future leaders of chiropractic is a crucial part of the growing paradigm shift toward wellness in health care.
Scholarship Award: $1,000 to one recipient
Eligibility Criteria:
- Candidates must be continuing students in Q8-Q10 enrolled in the chiropractic program.
- Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above
