Tell Me About The Award:

RFI is organizing the eleventh edition of the Ghislaine Dupont and Claude Verlon Scholarship, in tribute to the two reporters murdered in northern Mali on November 2, 2013. This Scholarship, which trains ten young radio journalists and ten young reporting technicians each year, is open to candidates from all French-speaking African countries. The training will take place in Cotonou. Applications are open until Sunday, August 25 at midnight, Paris time.

Who can Apply?

Also, to  participate, applicants must ensure they meet the following eligibility criteria: 

  • Under the age of 35.
  • At least two years of experience working in the radio field.
  • Reside in one of the following French-speaking countries: Algeria, Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Comoros, Congo, Ivory Coast, Djibouti, Gabon, Guinea, Madagascar, Mali, Morocco, Mauritius, Mauritania, Niger, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Senegal, Seychelles, Chad, Togo, Tunisia, or Rwanda.

What is the Benefit of the Award?

Additionally, applicants will also benefit the following:

  • Invitation to workshops from October 14 to 29, 2024, at the SRTB premises in Cotonou.
  • Four weeks of fully-funded training in Paris during the first quarter of 2025.
  • Material grant awarded to two deserving candidates who do not win the scholarship.
  • Recognition on November 2 at a ceremony in Cotonou, the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists.

  • The Participation Form with the boxes correctly checked your  CV and your cover letter.  
  • A report or sound element for journalists, an edit/mix, or on-air production for technicians. These sound elements must not exceed 2’30.
