Tell Me About The WWF Environmental Leaders Graduate Internship Program:

WWF (the World Wide Fund for Nature) is a leading global environmental organization with a vision of a future in which people and nature thrive. To realize this vision, WWF South Africa invests in the development of future leaders for the environment through a year-long graduate internship placement, from 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2026. Interns are placed within WWF South Africaโ€™s Environmental Program and partner organizations associated with our work. Working with a dedicated and trained mentor, you will have an opportunity to get involved with the work of the organization with which you are placed and interact with professionals pursuing the same vision of a better world for all.

Who can Apply For The WWF Environmental Leaders Graduate Internship Program?

Also, applicants must ensure they meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Completed a postgraduate degree in the natural, legal, engineering, arts, business, and/or social sciences. First-degree graduates are considered only in the case of exceptional academic achievement.ย 
  • A commitment to career development in the environment sector.ย 
  • A demonstrated and articulated commitment to a better and sustainable world for all.ย 
  • A record of exceptional academic and professional achievement.ย 
  • Exceptional leadership potential.ย 
  • Southern African citizenship

  • Certified copy/copies of your academic transcripts only. Certificates need not be included.ย

  • The Graduate Internship Programme has a 90% success rate of interns transitioning from the internship into full-time employment.
  • The program contributes to transforming the workforce for the environment with 66% females and 85% black South Africans supported through the program.
  • WWF is proud to engage with 80% of South Africaโ€™s universities, to ensure diversity of new entrants working for the environment into the future.
  • From an initial 7 interns in 2011 to 50 interns from 2017, a total of 177 interns have completed the internship and gone on to meaningfully contribute to environmental leadership in South Africa.
  • 42 committed partners have supported the hosting and mentoring of interns to support the career development journey of young graduate
