The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at UBC is a decade-long initiative that will support a total of 163 scholars, including 77 undergraduate and 35 masterโ€™s students. The program began in 2013 with five undergraduate students, and by 2018, UBC will have over 70 Mastercard Foundation Scholars on campus.

  • Hold a Bachelorโ€™s degree and be 35 years old or younger
  • Be a citizen or refugee of a Sub-Saharan African country with significant life experience there
  • Present economically disadvantaged financial circumstances and have excelled academically under difficult conditions
  • Exhibit leadership potential and a commitment to giving back to the community
  • Require a Canadian study permit and have not claimed or intend to claim asylum in Canada
  • Plan to return to Africa after completing a Masterโ€™s degree at the University of British Columbiaโ€™s Vancouver campus
