The Scuola Normale Superiore offers 75 PhD scholarships to both Italian and international students for four years. These scholarships cover tuition fees and provide a grant for board and accommodation. Additionally, all students receive extra funding to support their research activities, including opportunities abroad. The scholarships are awarded to students who maintain a high academic standard and make significant progress in their thesis work. For each postgraduate program, a spot is reserved for candidates who have earned a valid qualification from a foreign university.

Who Can Apply For The Scuola Normale Superiore PhD Scholarships?
Also, applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:
- those who have a master’s degree or an equivalent non-Italian qualification awarded no more than five years before the deadline for the first call for admission to the PhD. Courses of the 40° cycle of the Faculty of Sciences, that is, by 24th June 2024;
- those who will obtain a master’s degree in Italy or an equivalent qualification in a non-Italian university by 31 October 2024;
- do not have a PhD qualification issued by an Italian or non-Italian university, and in any case, have not benefited from a scholarship to attend a PhD programme in Italy;
- have not resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of the recruiting beneficiary for more than 12 months in the 36 months immediately before their date of recruitment (that is from 1 November 2021 to 1 November 2024)
