Tell Me About The Australian Embassy’s Direct Aid Program:

The Australian Embassy’s Direct Aid Program (DAP) is a small grants program that supports local communities to deliver direct, practical, and immediate projects that promote sustainable and inclusive economic growth and development. It is funded by the Australian Government and managed globally by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade through its Embassies, High Commissions, and Consulates.  

Also, DAP funding is available on a not-for-profit basis to community groups, non-government organisations (NGOs), research institutions, and other entities engaged in development activities. The Australian Embassy in Addis Ababa’s DAP program supports projects in Ethiopia, South Sudan, Djibouti, and the Central African Republic.

Which Fields are Eligible?

The following fields are eligible:

  • gender equality, disability, and social inclusion (GEDSI) 
  • health services and education, particularly women’s and girl’s sexual and reproductive health rights 
  • agriculture, food security, and climate resilience 
  • governance, peacebuilding (including women, peace, and security), and human rights.

Who can Apply For The Australian Embassy’s Direct Aid Program?

Also, applications must meet the following criteria:

  • Community groups, non-government organizations (NGOs), research institutions, and other entities engaged in development activities are eligible to apply.
  • Projects must be located in Ethiopia, South Sudan, Djibouti, or the Central African Republic.
  • Eligible project focus areas include gender equality, disability, and social inclusion (GEDSI); health services and education, especially women’s and girls’ sexual and reproductive health rights; agriculture, food security, and climate resilience; and governance, peacebuilding, and human rights.

What is the Benefit of the Award?

Additionally, there is no minimum amount that a single DAP project can receive, but the maximum is AUD 60,000 over the life of the project. Activities can run for a maximum of two years.  

How Long Will the Award Last?

How to Apply:

  • The Australian Embassy runs a two-stage DAP application process, consisting of an ‘Expression of Interest’ (Stage One) and a ‘Full Proposal’ (Stage Two).
