Who can Apply For The UNU-WIDER Visiting PhD Fellowship Program 2025 in Finland?

Also, to be eligible for this opportunity, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Candidates from other social sciences are welcome to apply but should note that UNU-WIDER is primarily an economics-focused institute.

  • The programme is especially suited for researchers who are in the later stages of their PhD.
  • The Visiting PhD Fellowship Programme is highly competitive, with only a limited number of fellows accepted each year.

What is the Benefit of the Award?

  • Additionally, applicants will also benefit the following:
    UNU-WIDER provides a travel grant to cover the cost of travel to and from the fellowโ€™s Ph.D.-granting institution or country of residence.
  • Medical insurance is provided for medical and hospital services resulting from sickness and accidents during the fellowship period.
  • Fellows receive a monthly stipend of EUR 2,000 to cover living expenses while in Helsinki.
  • The programme does not cover expenses or provide services for dependents.
  • The monthly stipend only applies to the duration of the stay in Helsinki and does not cover online participation.
