Tell Me About The ECOWAS Women and Clean Energy in West Africa (WOCEWA) Scholarships 2024:

The WOCEWA Scholarship and Green Jobs Program, funded by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Canada, and managed by the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE), is an initiative designed to promote gender equality in the clean energy sector across West Africa. With CAD 1.5 million in funding, this program aims to support the objectives of the ECOWAS Policy for Gender Mainstreaming in Energy Access by reducing barriers to equal participation for women and men in expanding energy access. The WOCEWA initiative focuses on increasing women’s involvement both as consumers and suppliers of clean energy, especially within the private sector.

Additionally, through this scholarship program, ECREEE is committed to creating a pool of future female leaders in the energy sector. The program offers scholarships to six (6) young women from West Africa to pursue master’s degrees in energy-related fields, along with guaranteed internships at ECOWAS energy institutions and agencies. These six-month internships are designed to enhance their employability and prepare them for successful careers in the energy sector.
