The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) invites undergraduate students in Nigeria to participate in an essay competition as part of the Tax for SDGs Initiative. This initiative focuses on how effective tax policies can support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Winning essays will be adapted into policy briefs to help shape sustainable tax policies in Nigeria.

Entries must be submitted by 1 October 2024.
Evaluation Criteria:
Essays will be evaluated based on the following:
- Relevance: Alignment with the theme and focus on the role of taxation in achieving the SDGs in Nigeria.
- Innovation: Originality of ideas and practicality of proposed solutions.
- Analysis: Depth of research, critical thinking, and understanding of the theme.
- Clarity: Coherence, structure, and articulation of arguments.
- Impact: Potential of the essayโs recommendations to influence policy and sustainable business practices in Nigeria.
- Accountability: Consideration of citizens’ responsibilities to tax systems and the relationship between tax participation and the social contract.

Submission Guidelines:
- Essay Length: Between 1,500 and 2,000 words.
- Language: English.
- Format: Typed, double-spaced, and submitted in PDF.
- Originality: Must be original, unpublished work. Plagiarism or use of AI tools will lead to disqualification.
- Deadline: Entries must be submitted by 1 October 2024.
