The Permanent Forum is seeking recognition and aims to establish its identity with a new logo. This competition invites artists from Africa and the diaspora to design a logo representing the Forum’s goals and the people it serves. It also involves people of African descent in decision-making, ensuring their perspectives are valued and fostering a sense of ownership and inclusivity. The competition celebrates diversity and strengthens efforts to recognize and honour the contributions of people of African descent.

Who can Apply For The United Nations Permanent Forum on People of African Descent Competition 2025?

The competition is open to participants of all ages and nationalities, who are Africans or identify as people of African descent.

How are Applicants Selected?

Contestants and their submissions will be judged on their originality, creativity, quality, and relevance to the themes addressed by the Permanent Forum. The choice will be made according to the discretion of the judges. To learn more about the Permanent Forum’s work and the various issues and themes it addresses, please visit its webpage.

Submission Format:

  • Be in vector format preferably (.ai,.svg or .eps). If the participant cannot submit it in vector format, they can submit a transparent TIF of the file in high quality (a minimum of 2500px).
  • If the visual includes colours (a limited colour palette is recommended), please also submit a single ink version. Please keep in mind that the file will be printed on different media and materials.
  • The design must be scalable. It will be used in a wide range of sizes.
  • The Font used must support the non-Latin alphabet. This is because the logo will be for in all United Nations official languages, namely: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, and Spanish. For this purpose, the contestant may use the brand font of the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), Futura Std for the design. This will make the translation of the logo easier. The contestant can propose different layouts for using the type on the design. He/She must take into account that the design needs to work in the other UN languages. The logo concept must still work when flipped for Arabic.

Please do not the UN emblem in your designs, including portions of the UN emblem.

What is the Benefit of the Award?

Additionally, the winner will benefit the following:

  • The winner will be contacted before the end-of-year announcement.
  • The winner will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to New York to attend the 4th session of the Permanent Forum on People of African Descent from 14 to 17 April 2025.
  • The winner will be presented during the opening ceremony of the 4th session.
  • The winner will receive support to organize an art exhibition during the session, provided their portfolio aligns with relevant UN policies.

Also, each submission should include the name, age, nationality of the author, an explanation of the visual, and the visual itself in the format prescribed below.
