We would like to announce the 2025 UNISA Postgraduate Bursary Application open 1 October 2024 to 31 December 2024

The core purpose is to provide financial support to postgraduate students through a student-centred platform and assist the university in attracting and supporting postgraduate students in delivering quality research outputs.

Who can Apply?

Returning Bursary Beneficiaries – previously funded by UNISA PG Bursary.

• UNISA NQF level 8 PG Diploma/ honours students South African (citizens) who have passed their previously funded/ registered modules with an average of 50%.

New Bursary applicants – never been funded by UNISA PG Bursary.

• UNISA NQF level 7 undergraduate alumni students, South African (citizens) who have completed their degree/ advance diploma by 31 January 2025, and attained an average of 60% on their entire undergraduate qualification (including supplementary, failed, etc modules).
• UNISA NQF level 8 PG Diploma/ honours students, South African (citizens) in their second year of study who have passed at least three postgraduate modules and attained an average of 60% in the same previously registered Postgraduate qualification.

How are Applicants Selected?

Only master’s returning students who registered first time not more than 3 years ago from academic year of bursary application (e.g. for 2025 only students who registered first time between 2022 and 2024 are eligible). Students with previously approved deferments can be considered for each academic year(s) of deferment.

Only doctoral returning students who registered first time not more than 6 years ago from academic year of bursary application (e.g. for 2025 only students who registered first time between 2019 and 2024 are eligible). Students with previously approved deferments can be considered for each academic year(s) of deferment.
