Tell Me About The St John’s College Oxford Career Development Research Fellowships:
Career Development Research Fellowships for full-time research offered by St John’s College to early career researchers who have recently completed or are close to completion of a doctorate (and will have submitted their thesis no later than three months before their start date of this post), or who have recently been awarded a doctorate. They provide an unrivalled opportunity to establish a research profile as a member of a collegiate community.

Who can Apply For the St John’s College Oxford Career Development Research Fellowships?
Also, applicants are to meet the following criteria:
- Research fellowships are awarded to those near completing their doctorate (submitted by 1 July 2025) or who earned their doctorate after 1 October 2022.
- Medical students who interrupted their professional training for a doctorate must have completed their training after 1 October 2022.
- Proof of the right to work in the UK is necessary for appointment.
- Support is available for successful candidates needing Skilled Worker visas, provided they meet visa eligibility, including sufficient English language skills.
- Candidates must submit visa documentation three months before the post-start date, including either a doctoral certificate or an academic reference confirming the submission of their thesis or award of their doctorate.
- A 1,000-word research statement is necessary, outlining their proposed research, and should be understandable to scholars outside their discipline.
- Candidates must not have previously held a comparable career development appointment at Oxford or another university.
- Two referees, including the PhD supervisor, must submit references by 1.00 pm on Thursday, 31st October 2024.
- Shortlisting, interviews, and appointments will occur in early 2025.

What is the Benefit of the Award?
Additionally, applicants will benefit the following:
- The annual salary is equivalent to point 7.5 on the University Scale, currently £40,521, with potential adjustments for other remuneration and annual increments.
- A pensionable Oxford University Weighting payment of £1,500 per annum will be provided, paid monthly and pro-rated for part-time appointments.
- The appointee will be automatically enrolled in the USS pension scheme.
- Successful applicants are expected to spend most of their time in Oxford during the appointment tenure.
- CDRFs will have full dining privileges in the Senior Common Room, including free lunches and dinners when the kitchen is open.
- A research and development allowance of £3,000 per year will be granted.
- CDRFs are eligible to apply for certain competitive College grant schemes.
