The Utrecht Excellence Scholarship offers a number of highly talented prospective students the opportunity to pursue a degree in a selected number of fields at Utrecht University.

Which Fields are Eligible?

The following fields are eligible:

• Economics and Business Economics
• Global Sustainability Science
• Liberal Arts and Sciences at University College Utrecht (different procedures apply to UCU applicants, please see the University College Utrecht website)

Who can Apply?

Also, applicants are to meet the following criteria:

• not hold a Dutch or EU/EEA passport and not be eligible for support under the Dutch study grant and loan system.
• possess a non-Dutch secondary school certificate.
• have been admitted to the bachelor’s programme in Economics and Business Economics, Philosophy, Politics and Economics, Global Sustainability Science, or to University College Utrecht.
• hold a relevant secondary school qualification certificate (for a bachelor’s programme) or equivalent.
• be able to comply with the conditions that must be met to obtain a Dutch visa.

Please meet one or more of these criteria automatically to ensure the student is eligible for this scholarship.

How are Applicants Selected?

Eligible candidates will be selected for a scholarship based on the following criteria:

• Their academic excellence and promise in the proposed field of study.
• Their academic quality and results of their previous education, as evidenced by grades and test scores etc.
• The quality of the application itself (completeness, accuracy, consistency).

What is the Benefit of the Award?

Additionally, the scholarship benefits include:

• Selected students will receive a scholarship between €5,000 and €17,000 per year, which can help offset tuition and living costs.
• The scholarship provides financial support to aid in funding studies, reducing the burden on students.
• It can contribute to fulfilling the financial requirements needed for international students to obtain a residence permit in the Netherlands.
• Receiving a scholarship can also enhance a student’s academic and professional profile.

How Long Will the Award Last?

3 years 

How to Apply:

• Non-EU/EEA students who have submitted an application for a UES-eligible bachelor’s program before the deadline can apply for one Utrecht Excellence Scholarship starting from 1 November 2024.
• UES application(s) will be visible in the applicant’s OSIRIS Online Application dashboard.
• Applicants should click “view/edit” for the UES application linked to their program, upload the required personal statement form, answer the questions, and submit the application.
• Selected candidates will be notified of their scholarship award by May at the latest.
• Students starting their program in February are not eligible for the Utrecht Excellence Scholarships.
