Purpose of the Job:

The Digital Multimedia Officer will produce high-quality multimedia content, primarily for online audiences, supporting MSF’s institutional and operational communication objectives.

The MSF Southern Africa Communication Department is tasked with raising awareness of medical humanitarian issues and MSF’s values among South African society to mobilize influence and resources (advocacy, fundraising, and recruitment). This is done through media engagement, social media network interaction, and other communication initiatives. The Digital Multimedia Officer will play a key role in producing multimedia content to support these efforts.

Key Responsibilities of the Digital Multimedia Officer:

  • Content Creation: Develop, shoot, and edit compelling multimedia content, including graphics, gifs/animations, and videos, for online and internal communications.
  • Video Production: Manage video projects from start to finish, producing both short-form content for social media and long-form projects.
  • Multimedia Management: Repurpose international MSF content for Southern African audiences and manage the multimedia story library.
  • Collaboration & Support: Work closely with international colleagues and support MSF departments with video-based marketing and communication needs. Assist in filming during project visits or emergency responses.
  • Skills Transfer: Act as a technical referent for Adobe Creative Suite and video production standards, and provide training to colleagues.
  • Reporting: Compile quarterly reports on multimedia content performance.

Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in audiovisual technologies or equivalent.
  • Experience: At least 4 years of professional experience in multimedia production (filming, editing, scriptwriting) with a strong photography or multimedia journalism portfolio.
  • Skills: Proven experience in social media and digital communication, Adobe Creative Suite proficiency, strong writing abilities, and understanding of ethical communication.
  • Knowledge: Good judgment on ethical and copyright issues, familiarity with international news/current affairs, and understanding of humanitarian issues and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) principles.
  • Other: Ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and work flexible hours. Cross-cultural awareness, strong attention to detail, and adherence to MSF’s principles (Respect, Transparency, Integrity, Accountability, Trust, and Empowerment).

Preferred Experience:

  • Field experience as a multimedia journalist, filmmaker, or mobile journalism practitioner.
  • Experience working in digital marketing environments or multimedia design and animation projects.

  • Monthly salary: R30,888 – 53,000.
