Tell Me About The Fully Funded Echidna Global Scholars Fellowship Program 2025:

The Echidna Global Scholars Program is a six-month visiting fellowship hosted by the Center for Universal Education at the Brookings Institution in Washington, DC. This program empowers leaders from the Global South to advance gender equality in education. During the fellowship, scholars conduct research to improve educational opportunities and outcomes for girls, young women, and gender non-conforming individuals, while enhancing their leadership and policy skills. After completing the fellowship, scholars join the Echidna Global Scholars Alumni Network, fostering ongoing collaboration for gender-transformative education worldwide.

Who can Apply For The Fully Funded Echidna Global Scholars Fellowship Program 2025?

Also, the eligibility criteria include:

  • Significant professional experience and strong ties to the Global South, with a commitment to returning there after the fellowship.
  • Minimum of 10 years in education, gender/women’s studies, international development, public policy, or related social sciences or humanities, in roles within research/academia, NGOs, civil society, or government.
  • Master’s degree or higher in a relevant field.
  • Deep knowledge of education, development, and gender issues, along with strong analytical, collaborative, and writing skills.
  • Proficiency in English is required.
  • Priority is given to applicants from West Africa, Southeast Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, and the Middle East and North Africa, or those working on issues like gender-based violence, child marriage, and reproductive health in conflict-affected regions.
  • Research focus should be on education for girls, young women, or gender non-conforming individuals, incorporating a gender-transformative framework and aiming to improve life outcomes beyond basic enrollment.

Additionally, the benefits include:

  • A stipend of USD 25,000 for living expenses during the pre-residency and residency periods (subject to U.S. tax requirements).
  • Visa process costs are covered by the Center for Universal Education (CUE).
  • Single-occupancy housing is provided for the 4-month residency period.
  • Round-trip travel expenses are covered.
  • Limited health insurance plan provided during the fellowship period.

All applications must be submitted through the iCIMS application system. Initial application materials must include: 

  • A CV or resume should include your education and professional experience, as well as a list of your publications, and any fellowships, honours, awards, funded research, or foundation support that you have received.  
  • The completed Echidna Global Scholars Program Application which includes both a written questionnaire and a research proposal. Click on a hyperlink to access a document and upload it in the “Writing sample” section. Documents must be saved in a format of Last Name_First Name_document name (for example Doe_Jane_CV).
