The Developing Solutions Scholarship is the University of Nottingham’s flagship master’s award, established in 2001, to support students from Africa, South Asia, and selected Commonwealth countries. This program offers scholarships covering 50% or 100% of tuition fees for one-year master’s courses, empowering international students who are driven to address critical economic, environmental, social, or political challenges within their home countries. It’s designed for those who can demonstrate the vision and commitment to creating impactful solutions that foster development and drive positive change.

Who can Apply For The University of Nottingham Developing Solutions Masters Scholarships?

Also, the eligibility criteria includes: 

  • be domiciled in Africa, India or one of the selected Commonwealth countries listed below
  • be classed as an overseas student for fee purposes
  • hold an offer to start a full-time masters (including MRes) for 2025/26 at the University of Nottingham UK, studying in the Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Faculty of Science or Faculty of Social Sciences

How are Applicants Selected?

The selection criteria is as follows:

  • Applicants will be assessed primarily on their ability to demonstrate a vision and a tangible plan for developing a specific solution that will positively impact key economic, environmental, structural, social, or political challenges in their home country.
  • Strong applicants should connect their solution to the learning outcomes of their chosen course of study and explain how these will support their efforts.
  • Applications that clearly reflect the ethos of Developing Solutions will be reviewed with traditional scholarship criteria in mind, including reasons for studying at Nottingham and notable achievements.
  • Allow enough time to prepare well-thought-out answers, as responses and academic merit will be considered in scholarship decisions.
  • There is a strict word count limit for each question, outlined at the end of each question, which applicants are encouraged to check before submitting.
  • Responses exceeding the word count limit may not be reviewed, as the system does not automatically enforce this limit.

The following countries are eligible: Africa (all nations), Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Bangladesh, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Brunei, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Falkland Islands, Fiji, Gibraltar, Grenada, Guyana, India, Jamaica, Kiribati, Malaysia, Maldives, Montserrat, Nauru, Nepal, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Pitcairn Islands, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka, St Helena, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Tonga, Trinidad and Tobago, Tristan da Cunha, Turks and Caicos Islands, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.
