Tell Me About The Award:
- The Hearing Health Foundation’s Emerging Research Grants Program provides funding for innovative research in hearing and balance science, including underfunded areas of otology.
Which Fields are Eligible?
- Hearing and balance research, including but not limited to:
- Age-related hearing loss
- Auditory and vestibular implants
- Central Auditory Processing Disorder
- Hyperacusis, tinnitus, and vestibular disorders
- Cellular and molecular therapies, physiology of hearing and balance, and more.

Who can Apply for the Emerging Research Grants?
- Researchers with an Au.D., M.D., Ph.D., or equivalent.
- Must hold an appointment at a nonprofit educational, governmental, or research institution in the U.S.
- Eligible roles include faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and clinical/research fellows. Medical residents in otolaryngology may apply; other residents and Ph.D. students are not eligible.
- Early Stage Investigators (ESIs)—those within 10 years of their most recent terminal degree or medical residency—are especially encouraged to apply.
How are Applicants Selected?
- Through a competitive review process evaluating the potential impact and promise of each proposal.
- Awards are granted to researchers with high potential to secure further funding from major sources like the NIH.
Which Countries Are Eligible?
- United States only, as applicants must be affiliated with U.S.-based institutions.
Where will the Award be Taken?
- At the researcher’s affiliated nonprofit institution within the U.S.
How Many Awards?
- Multiple awards are available each year, including both general and topic-specific grants.
What is the Benefit of the Award?
- Provides up to $50,000 per year for research projects, renewable for a second year.
- Offers a strong foundation for future federal funding, with past grantees securing an average of $59 in federal funds per dollar of ERG funding received.
How Long Will the Award Last?
- Initial period of one year, with the possibility of renewal for a second year.
- Program dates: October 1, 2025, to September 30, 2026.
